I am working on a pure python text editor.
I was introduced to nedit when I started working at Thales in 1999. Its a Motif/X Windows text editor, with a very powerful client server mode. Client server here works like X. The user interface is the server, and a client can be somewhere
So with nedit you can select files using normal shell tools like grep, find and xargs, then open them in the editor. It has a scripting language and can be extended through APIs or extensions to the client.
Problem is, that Motif has mostly gone away, and X is slowly going away. Its not really supported on the Mac I use for my day job, so I needed an alternative.
The editor I am building is called neep. Its been under development since 2015 and took off again recently when I got back into commuting by train, and I acquired my pi-top. I can sit on the train and code, doing some integration during the day.
The editor has moved away from its lightweight roots somewhat. Support for ctags and version control are built in. It supports mercurial and git at the moment, and I am going to build cvs support for the hell of it.
